Soli Organic Drives Sustainability Forward, Powered by Penske Electric Truck to Sustainably Deliver Indoor-Grown Greens

ROCKINGHAM, VA, August 14, 2024 Soli Organic Inc. (“the Company”), the nation’s leading indoor agriculture company, is proud to announce a new milestone in its leading Transportation team and network. Working with Penske Truck Leasing, Soli Organic has deployed its first-ever battery-electric truck into its fleet. This collaboration builds on both companies’ strong, shared commitment to transforming traditionally carbon intensive industries to reduce environmental impact through innovation.

Soli Organic is integrating the Freightliner® eCascadia® vehicle into its Virginia-based logistics hub, enhancing its distribution of fresh, organic, high-value produce while further decreasing its carbon footprint. The pilot will run for 6 months and help inform future transformation of their best-in-class refrigerated LTL (less-than-truckload) transportation service.

Soli Organic has continued to make significant progress in its commitment to increasing the sustainability of growing leafy greens and herbs. This includes year-over-year route optimization for reduced emissions, growing fresh produce indoors close to major consumer markets to reduce food miles, and innovation with growing technology that, among other advantages, eliminates the use of energy intensive fertilizers while also sourcing lighting power from green electricity whenever possible.

“The addition of this new electric vehicle is a testament to Soli Organic’s ongoing commitment to using innovation to help us advance our leadership in sustainability,” said Matt Ryan, CEO of Soli Organic. “This trial will provide us with valuable insights into the operational efficiencies and environmental benefits of electrifying our supply chain.”

Penske Truck Leasing is Soli Organic’s primary provider for its end-to-end vehicle fleet that reaches critical distribution centers and more than 20,000 retail stores nationwide.

“We are very pleased to support Soli Organic’s continued sustainability efforts,” stated Paul Rosa, Penske senior vice president of procurement and fleet planning. “The Freightliner® eCascadia® is designed to deliver strong performance while minimizing environmental impact.”

Most recently, Soli Organic unveiled its most technologically advanced soil-based vertical farm and packing facility yet in San Antonio, Texas, which grows organic produce indoors with 90% less water and 99% less land than traditional outdoor farming, further exemplifying the company’s continued growth and commitment to sustainability.
